The Therapist

Hi, I'm Dan, and I'm a fully trained and accredited, practicing Art Psychotherapist based in Worcestershire, offering online art therapy to anyone in the UK.

I  have full member accreditation with the British Association of Arts Therapists (BAAT), and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, meaning I must adhere to the highest standards of practice and ethics for my profession. If you have any further queries about my education, training or practice, please feel free to get in touch, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have!

I've loved art my whole life, and got my degree in illustration with ambitions of working in children's books, concept art and comics; but my interest in mental health took me down a different path...

When I found out there was a profession that could combine my passion for art with my fascination of the human mind and desire to help others, I knew I'd found my calling- I achieved my Master's degree in Art Psychotherapy from the University of South Wales, and am now a fully qualified and practicing NHS Art Psychotherapist, offering online Art Therapy through private practice for anyone interested in this powerful, effective approach.

The Therapy

I provide a warm, human and authentic approach that is trauma-informed and person-centred, using principles from evidence-based psychological models such as Mentalisation Based Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Compassion Focused Therapy to help inform and develop Art Psychotherapy interventions that are specific to the client's needs. I believe that offering online art therapy allows these interventions to become even more tailored to the client, allowing them the freedom to work from the comfort of their own safe space.

From brief interventions to longer term work, I offer a safe and compassionate online art therapy experience, helping clients explore issues such as identity, self-esteem, feelings of guilt and shame, low mood; depression; anxiety; trauma; and forming and maintaining relationships. I also have a special interest in incorporating popular culture into bespoke, purposeful art therapy interventions, which you can find out more about here.

What to Expect During Online Art Therapy Sessions:

  1. Initial Consultation: All our online art therapy sessions will be conducted via Zoom. In your first session, we will discuss your goals and any challenges you're facing. This helps us understand your needs and tailor the therapy to your unique situation. I offer free 30 minute consultations to prospective clients, which we can arrange by getting in touch today.
  2. Creative Exploration: In each session, I will use my training, knowledge and experience to tailor your online art therapy experience to your specific needs. Guiding you through the art-making process in way that helps you express and explore your feelings. You don’t need to be an artist—no artistic experience is required to benefit from art therapy.
  3. Reflection and Discussion: After the creative process, we will discuss your artwork together, gaining insight into your emotions, thoughts, and patterns. This discussion allows for self-reflection, understanding and healing. For online art therapy sessions, you will keep your artwork with you, and what you choose to do with it is completely your decision.

If online art therapy sounds like the kind of work you might benefit from, or if you have any further questions, check out the FAQs section to find out more.
